Global alumni network

The Chevening alumni community, connected for life

Scholars and Fellows from every corner of the world, staying in touch long after the degree is finished — sharing opportunities, opening doors, and backing the next generation of scholars.

Your details are encrypted before they are stored — only the committee can read them.

Why join

A network is only as good as the people who show up

The directory exists so alumni can find each other on purpose rather than by chance — by country, by cohort, by the thing you happen to need this week.

Stay connected

Find the alumni near you and the ones who studied what you studied. Reconnect with your own cohort, and meet the years either side of it.

Share opportunities

Roles, funding calls, research collaborations and speaking invitations travel fastest through people who already trust each other.

Support new scholars

Applicants and new arrivals ask the same questions every year. Answering them is the cheapest, highest-value thing an alum can do.

How it works

Three steps, one form, no account to manage

There is no password to remember and no profile to maintain. You submit your details once; a committee member checks them by hand.

  1. Register

Name, email, country and cohort year. Attaching your Chevening certificate is optional, but it makes verification much quicker.

  2. We verify

A committee volunteer reviews each submission by hand against the cohort records. Nothing is automated, so please allow a little time.

  3. You're counted in

Once approved you're part of the directory, and the community counters on this page tick up by one.

Your data

Built so that even we can't browse your details casually

Alumni are asked to hand over a name, a phone number and sometimes a scan of a certificate. That deserves more care than a spreadsheet in someone's inbox, so the protection is built into the system rather than promised in a policy.

  • Encrypted before storageYour name, email, phone and any uploaded certificate are scrambled the moment they arrive. The database holds unreadable blobs.
  • No public exposure of filesUploaded certificates have no public web address at all. They can only be opened through the committee's sign-in protected console.
  • Every look is loggedEach time a committee member opens a record or a certificate, it is recorded against their name and the time.
  • We never ask for ID documentsNo passports, no national identity cards. A Chevening certificate is the only document requested, and even that is optional.
  • Public numbers onlyThe counters on this page are totals. No name, cohort or country is ever published against an individual.

About

Run by alumni, for alumni

This community is organised and maintained by Chevening alumni volunteers. It is independent: it is not run by, funded by, or an official channel of the Chevening programme or the UK government.

The directory is the first piece. Events, mentoring introductions and a members' area are the natural next steps, and they will be built once there are enough verified members to make them worth having. If you would like to help shape that, say so when you register.

Questions

Before you register

Who is eligible to join?

Anyone who has completed a Chevening Scholarship or Fellowship, in any cohort from 1983 onwards, in any country. Current scholars are welcome to register once their studies are complete.

Do I have to upload my certificate?

No — it is optional. Without it a committee member has to verify you against cohort records manually, which takes longer. If you do attach it, it is encrypted on arrival and only ever viewable inside the committee's protected console.

Will my details appear publicly on this website?

No. Nothing you submit is published. The only figures shown publicly are aggregate counts — how many approved members there are, and how many countries they live in. Those totals cannot be traced back to any individual.

How long does approval take?

Every application is read by a volunteer rather than a machine, so the honest answer is that it depends on how many arrive at once. Attaching your certificate is the single best way to speed it up.

Can I change my details or have them deleted?

Yes. You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted entirely — including any certificate you uploaded. Contact the committee and it will be actioned; see the privacy notice for detail.

Is this the official Chevening alumni platform?

No. This is an independent community site built and run by alumni volunteers. It is not affiliated with the Chevening programme, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, or any UK government body.
